Contraindications (TCM) Very piercing and mobilizing,
excessive use will readily injure normal Qi.
Caution with Qi and/or Blood Def; general weakness, pregnancy
Contraindications (Western) Topical application associated dermatological reactions: rash, swelling, itching, pain
Chemical Composition Protoanemonin, anemonin, anemonol
Pharmacological Effects • Gastrointestinal: associated with increased peristalsis of smooth muscle in gastrointestinal tract in anesthetized dogs
• Cardiovascular: water extract has protective effect against lack of oxygen and blood perfusion to cardiac muscles in rats
• Abortifacient: alcohol extract may induce abortion in mice in second trimester
