Formula Type Formulas that Release Exterior-Interior Excess
Diagnosis Tai Yang and Tai Yin disorder
Action Releases the exterior, warms the interior, augments Qi, eliminates focal distention
Indication Mild exterior symptoms (fever, chills, headache, joint pains, etc.) accompanied by severe diarrhea and hard focal distention in epigastrium
Remarks Also used for internal disorders resulting from obstruction of Qi dynamic due to cold in middle jiao, usually presenting with deficiency symptoms (e.g. diarrhea, fatigue after eating, cold extremities, increased urination) accompanied by excess symptoms indicating clumping of cold and fluids (e.g. hard focal distention, bloating, abdominal pain relieved by warmth, nausea), up-rushing of Yang (vomiting, hot flushes), and inability of turbid Yin to descend (headaches, migraines, excessive salivation)
