Diagnosis Blood deficiency and blood stasis in those with a tendency to be cold
Action Warms the menses, dispels blood stasis, nourishes blood
Indication Overdue menses with scanty menstrual flow (often with blood clots) and pain and distention in the lower abdomen before and during menses. P: submerged, strong
Remarks Also used for painful menstruation due to blood deficiency and stasis of Qi and blood, in which case it is usually given for 4-5 days prior to onset of period and is continued through the first day of the period
